Ingredients
- Trader Joe's Frozen Chicken or Chicken Gyoza: 1 (16 oz) bag (approx. 25 dumplings)
- Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken Soup: 1 (10.5 oz) can
- Milk or Heavy Cream: 1/2 cup
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese: 1 cup
- Soy Sauce or Tamari: 1 tablespoon
- Toasted Sesame Oil: 1 teaspoon
- Sliced Scallions (for garnish): 2 tablespoons
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch baking dish.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk (or heavy cream), soy sauce, and sesame oil until the sauce is smooth and fully combined.
- Step 3: Arrange the frozen dumplings in a single layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Pour the soup mixture evenly over the top of the dumplings, ensuring they are mostly covered by the sauce.
- Step 4: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. This steaming process allows the dumplings to cook through and absorb the flavors.
- Step 5: Remove the dish from the oven, discard the foil, and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top. Return the dish to the oven, uncovered, and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden brown.
- Step 6: Let the bake rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with the sliced scallions.
Notes
- If you have leftovers, cover the dish tightly and refrigerate for up to three days; freezing is not recommended as the sauce consistency and dumplings may suffer when thawed.
- For best results when reheating, cover individual portions loosely and bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes, or until warmed through, to maintain the crisp texture of the cheese topping.
- Pair this rich bake with a simple, contrasting side like steamed white rice or a crisp cucumber and sesame salad to balance the savory sauce.
- For an extra layer of umami and depth, whisk in a small splash of rice vinegar (1/2 teaspoon) into the soup mixture before baking; the acidity brightens the heavy sauce beautifully.
