Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb cooked chicken breast, shredded
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or garlic powder)
- 8 large slices provolone or Swiss cheese (for wraps)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Step 1: In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30-60 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Step 2: Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the softened cream cheese until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, mixing well.
- Step 3: Add the shredded chicken and the shredded mozzarella cheese to the cream cheese mixture. Stir thoroughly until the chicken is evenly coated and the mozzarella begins to melt slightly, forming a cohesive filling. Remove the skillet from heat.
- Step 4: Lay out a large slice of provolone or Swiss cheese on a cutting board. Spoon approximately 1/4 to 1/3 cup of the warm chicken mixture onto the center of the cheese slice.
- Step 5: Fold the sides of the cheese slice inward over the chicken mixture, then roll the cheese tightly to form a wrap structure. Repeat with the remaining cheese slices and chicken filling.
- Step 6: (Optional finishing step) For a firmer wrap, briefly place the finished wraps seam-side down on a hot, non-stick pan for 30 seconds until the cheese is lightly seared and holds its shape better. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Store leftover wraps tightly sealed in the fridge for up to 3 days; for best results, make sure the wraps are well-chilled before packing them for lunch.
- To avoid an oily mess, reheat the wraps in a toaster oven or standard oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 5 minutes to warm the filling without melting the outer cheese too much.
- To cut the richness of the creamy filling, serve these wraps with a fresh side of crisp celery sticks and an herbaceous dipping sauce like low-carb ranch or pesto.
- Ensure your heat is truly low before adding the cream cheese, as garlic burns very quickly, which can instantly introduce a harsh, bitter flavor to your entire filling.
